Sinop: Judge awaits transcription of questions for American pilots
April 04, 2008 - 08h39
Federal judge Murilo Mendes is waiting for the transcription of the questions that will be asked of American pilots Joseph Lepore and Jan Paladino, sent by the parts - defense and accusation - and by the magistrate himself, to send the rogoatory letters to the USA, where the two will be interrogated. There is still no prediction of when the process will be finished, since it depends on the steps of the American courts.
Jan and Joseph are on trial in the crash of the Gol Boeing, in September of 2006, in the Far North of Mato Grosso (200 km from Peixoto de Azevedo), leaving 154 dead, in the Federal Court of Sinop. The two piloted a Legacy jet, which was involved in the collision. As the two did not accept coming to Brazil to testify, the magistrates determined that they would be heard in their country of residence.
The other four accused in the case, controllers Jomarcelo Fernandes dos Santos, Lucivando Tibúrcio de Alencar, Leandro José Santos de Barros and Felipe dos Santos Reis, who were at work on the day of the accident, were already heard, in September of last year, during an audience in Sinop.
The witnesses' testimony, which also will be heard via precatory and rogatory letters, since they reside in other States and countries, will be suspended until the pilots testify.
